Mortgage loan without my spouse co-signing?

We have been trying to get a mortgage loan for about 3 years now, with NO luck.
I didn’t think that our credit was that bad, and we pay all of our bills on time. I guess the issue is this..my husband has some old "bad debt" from a divorce that is several years old. I think there are 3 items that have not been resolved..but they are OLD, like 7 yrs. We had an issue where Texas thought he didn’t pay Child Supp. for 3 yrs, but I had all of our reciepts, and resolved it..but though it wasn’t our error, it’s still on his credit

I was reading this morning on www.creditexpert.com and found that "your credit report is not affected when you marry..only the joint accounts show up on your report." So..can I apply for a mortgage in only my name since my credit is better? I’ve been told not, on a couple of instances..
I’ve also heard ..that you can or you can’t use his income as part of your "total household income" without him being on the loan..which is right on that.
Free advice please!

Since then I’ve taken on the accounts payable, back up for bookkeeping and other tasks as needed. I’m the only legal assistant who attends conciliation court matters on behalf of the firm. I’ve also taken on collection action cases for clients we represent. My workload alone with the bad debt collections has tripled since I originally started and the bad debt revenue has more than doubled since I’ve taken over the accounts. They had asked me in the past when I would be ready to go full time. As I was going through a divorce, my atty. had recommended waiting until my it was finalized. Now that it’s done I have made it known that I am ready and able to go full time and now they’re dragging their feet. I’ve cited more work performance and accomplishments as my basis for going full time. What more can I do or say to get them to hire me f/t
