Who does the back to school shopping in your family???
My husband insists on handling what he says is "his" money since he works and I am a SAHM. I have finally had enough of asking him for money to buy things like groceries or school supplies then getting ugly words thrown at me. He handles money poorly so we are deeply in debt and he will not budget or plan. It’s impossible for me to do things under his "rules". So I give up. He can do all the shopping for everything. I tried to manage our money for 2 years and he stayed angry with me when I would tell him in a store that we could not afford to buy this or that. I had to plan carefully all of our purchaces. Anyway I give up. Just wondering how others handle these things.
So have any of you recently started to get counseling for your debts and stuck to a budget?
I have just started getting a budget together. I know better than this to get myself in debt. Our hours at work have been cut and that just made it easier to use the credit cards and borrow more. I am sure there are people in my situation.
Increase Catholic Membership…Possible Parish Closing?
Hello I am apart of a small Catholic Parish in a Detroit, MI suburb area and we are struggling a bit at times with our tithes each week. We are don’t always met our 1,100 dollar a allotted budget however we are debt free and our building is long paid for we just celebrated our 65th anniversary. However, we are the only Catholic parish in the city that we are located in outside of Detroit suburb area. There has been talk about us possibly closing we are already clustered/sistered with another larger parish in a near by city. How would we know if we are on the chopping block to be closed? What can we do to help stay open? What does the Archdiocese want to see to make us a viable parish? I know that we need to increase our parish membership….I am trying to find ways to do that….I haven’t been to the parish council meetings to know all these thing b/c my mom has been sick. However we REALLY want to stay open. Nothing has come from the diocese about us closing yet but there is concern…HELP and any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Who to turn to for debt advice?
My wife and I have approx k in unsecured debt and second mortgage already. We’re paycheck to paycheck paying min payments now and its pretty uncomfortable.
I don’t want to shirk my responsibilities but we’re in a rut, treading water and not going anywhere. What type of professional should I trust? I’d like to sit down face to face with somebody. My research in different debt consolidation services scares me as does the thought of bankruptcy but for all I know, those are viable choices but I’d really like to talk to a neutral party to help me decide what to do.
A CFP would be more investment oriented right? Are there any government sponsored organizations statewide that are good?
Thanks,
We have a budget already and have cut down monthly expenses (tv, phone etc)to a minimum, living modestly. We analized a debt repayment plan but based on our surplus cash were looking at 4-5 years to get out by using the debt snowball thing. That is also assuming no financial hardships popping up.
Needing serious advice?
My husband and I have struggled for many years and I can’t take the stress anymore. We make decent money, I guess you could consider us "middle class". We can’t seem to get out of the paycheck to paycheck phase. I want to work on making a budget, but the only way I can find a way to do this is to have enough money to pay all the bills for one month and then start putting money back each week for the next month, unfortunately we can’t come up with that lump sum. Several times we have sat down and tried to budget, but it always fails. The other problem we run into is that it seems most of our bills fall the first of the month, which struggles us even more. Besides our regular monthly bills, I have 3 small credit cards under 0 and 2 small loans and we have a loan with less than 00, so we don’t have any large debt. Everytime we try to save back some money, something comes up and it goes away. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help me make our finances at least semi-stress free and build up a savings?
I need some advice with credit card?
I need advice on which cards to keep and which to close In total I have 7 Credit Cards I know for sure I want to close two of them out but would also like to know if I should do anything to the others
I have the following Cards,
Bank of America Platinum Plus, using of 2,300, opened 06/07
Sears (Blue), using 0 of ,100, opened 12/07
HSBC, 0 of 0, opened 03/08
Capital One, 0 of 0, opened 03/08
Sears MasterCard, 0 of ,000, opened 07/08
Target, 0 of 0, opened 09/08
Sam’s Club Personal Credit, of 0, opened 11/08
I also have a student loan out that deferred for ,000
I plan to close out HSBC ( they wanted to charge for a credit line increase of 0 they also have an annual fee and I think the most they will do is cut it in half) and Target because of their low credit limit and I really don’t shop at Target, just used it to get a 10% discount on some present for my mom. I don’t want to close out sears (blue) because I bought a TV on it and its interest deferred until august (I should have it paid of by april). Capital one is interest free for a year which is about to end, think I could get them to give me a good credit rate?
Do you have any suggestions for me I don’t want to open any more credit cards any time soon.
My credit score is a bit out of whack, credit companies Always report to the credit agencies when I have a high balance with them, which I think is unfair, hopefully I get lucky this upcomming report. Suggestions with that as well would be appreciated. Thank You very much for your suggestion.
P.S. I use Bank of America Privacy Assist to check my credit report it updates every 3 months. I still have money over from my student loan (I was going to use for a down payment on a car) should I use that money to pay off all the debt or should I continue doing it the way I am now, I made a budget off all my credit cards and I should have every thing paid off by february, except the sears card.

How does one care for an ailing parent who needs care 24/7 and work too?
My mom has Alzheimers, a colostomy bag and a feeding tube. I can’t bear the thought of nursing homes. If I could get my hands on ,000.00 that I didn’t have to pay back, I could pay off all my debts and move back to my mom’s home and take care of her. Are there any organizations out there that I could contact to get help? I’ve tried explaining my situation to my creditors but they seem to not care or maybe not believe me. I’ve always paid my way in this world even through the hard times. My mother raised me that way. Now she needs me and I’m so close to being debt free with my current budget, but she needs me now. I don’t know where to turn. Can someone give me some advice or suggestions? I’m not asking for a handout or trying to renig on my responsibilities. Just looking for an honest way to help the woman who brought me into this world, loved me, raised me and made me who I am. I want to do the right thing, return her love and care.
