I may have to file for Chapter 7, I am very depressed.?
Long story.
Like a lot of people I graduated college very naive but positive. I was laid off from a decent paying job and after that did temp work before deciding I wanted to work in the education field. Sadly, the charter school I worked for let all non full time employees go so now I am back to being on unemployment.
Each time I was laid off (the temp jobs didn’t last more than 6 months since those were temp only) I had to wait 4 weeks before I saw one penny of unemployment. I had little money in the bank so I did a very stupid thing, I used my credit card for rent, food, and sometimes gas (and one time a vet bill). I tried to go to a debt consultation place my credit card company referred me to and the girl told me that my problem was not budgeting it was lack of income. I told her I would work 70 hours if I could but it was hard to find work. She told me that a chapter 7 would be my best option to give me a "fresh start" and she told me I could look at repairing my credit after that and when I was working a steady job.
Any way, I am very depressed. The Unemployment Office told me that if I can get accepted into a program for my teaching certificate for a year and a half they will arrange for me to have my tuition waived and grant me an extension. It would be a year and a half of scrimping (I live with my boyfriend so he told me he can handle the rent while I am in school, the logic to him is that when I am teaching, I will have a better income and perhaps he can go to vo-tech while I work). I also plan to volunteer as a tutor if I do this, I always volunteered while on unemployment, it just felt wrong not to give back.
Sorry this was long, so I don’t know what to do, I have tried working with my credit card companies but they don’t want to budge on my min and one has gone to collections. I feel so depressed because my father always taught me to be good with my money but I wasn’t buying designer clothes, or anything luxury like. I was trying to keep a roof over my head and food on the table (which was peanut butter and pasta mostly I once even went 10 days without eating). I also worked hard so I could have a decent career and maybe own a home, and a decent car (all though taking the bus is good for the planet!
) not so I could file for bankruptcy and have to have my boyfriend make sure I am not homeless.
What else are my options? Has any one else had to file? Were you able to get your credit back? I have not told anyone in family and I wish I could talk to my boyfriend’s dad because he is an attorney but he made a remark the other day about how people ruin their credit about being irresponsible and filing. I also can’t tell my older sister, she was smart and became an engineer so she has always had a good paying job (which she did work her ass off to get) and even though she cares about me, I know she will be upset, and she is getting married soon and I am her maid of honor so I don’t her to think I can’t afford to be one.
What should I do? Please try to be too harsh, I am actually crying as I write this.
How to dispute a CA when I was never notified of the debt?
Silly me just got into the habit 4 months ago to check my credit from all 3 bureas on a regular basis. When I checked my credit, I see there is an account in deliquent status. It’s a doctor bill. They claim my insurance did not pay something. I have been to this doc several times, and was never notified about a bill. They never called me or sent an invoice. I would have paid if I knew I owed. I got the doctor to send me a bill now-2 years later. This is ruining my credit. Don’t they have to notify you if a debt is owed? The last time I was at his office 2 years ago, my final bill was {content}. How do I handle this properly? I am not sure how you handle collections with a doctor.
Please no comments like-You should have known, or it’s your fault, because I WAS NOT notified in any way about this debt. This debt was applied to my credit while I was still under his care! I don’t even think the doctor is making true claims.
Oh, by the way, I can’t get this doc to call me back-only his secretary.
How do I improve my fico score?
Please only professionals…or someone who knows about this topic
I have several items that are in collections. I have a fico score between 530-620 depending on which buerau you look at. I have never owned a credit card (I hate when I read all these sites on how to’s when they only speak in credit card terms).
I have read that even if you pay your debt with collections, that still doesn’t erase the mark from your credit report. It is still a negative mark. How in anyway can that help my fico improve if this is the case and what’s the point of paying them off then (Yes, moral reasons)?
Additionally, I wrote a letter to one of the collection agency’s (read this is the best way to handle them) to see if they could remove the mark if I paid i full…got no reply back.
Secondly, would paying my debt (even though it is in collections) improve by fico score through debt to income ratio (this being apart of history payments)? I am not employed (student) but If I pay my debt that does lower my overall debt so would this help my fico score?
What can I do about my credit?
I just turned 20, and I have a lot of debt because I was homeless for awhile after high school. I used to have really good credit, but it has suffered lately. I had a Sprint bill go to collections because I was homeless and had no job, but it is paid in full. I now have a Verizon bill that has gone to collections, but for a different reason. I refuse to pay it because they refuse to tell me why I owe so much. When I disconnected service with them, I owed 0(early termination included in that amount) and now they are saying I owe 00 and can’t tell me why. I also had a JCPenney card that isnt in collections but is behind. I am paying back my student loans slowly, but I am a little behind. Also, I just got evicted from my apartment because my door was kicked down and all my stuff stolen and I got a noise complaint and a complaint of police activity. I plan to fight that one in court, but they will report badly on my credit. I wanted to get a debt consolidation loan, but bad credit and all I own is my car, which isn’t worth enough to use as colateral. Good things about my credit are I have never missed a payment on my current cell bill, my cable bill, my utilities or my rent anywhere I have ever lived. My problem is I really need a cheap second car because my fiancee and I are sharing one and I am going to lose my AWESOME job because I am late every day because of our conflicting schedules. Also, I am in a rent to own agreement with my current landlord, who is going to pay my downpayment to own the house I am living in after 12 months, but I am afraid I can’t get the loan. How can I improve my credit? How bad is my credit? What can I do about the Verizon charges and my eviction? Is there a way to dispute them? I paid my apartment for the time I lived there, but I will NOT pay them for breaking the lease because I didn’t. I will pay Vezion what I owe them but I won’t give them money they can’t prove I owe them. I don’t mind to pay my debts, but I am not paying people trying to take advantage of me. Is there anyplace that will give me a loan to consolidate these debts so I can start making a single monthly payment? Is there any place that will give me a car loan? HELP!!!!!
Does getting a debt consolidation loan help my chances?
My fiance and I are trying to buy a house. But no where will give us a loan because he has such horrible credit. Will getting a debt consolidation loan help his credit enough to be able to get a home loan?
Also the things that are bad on his credit are all in collections if that makes a difference.

How to repair credit after fully paying all debts?
So I paid all my debts, collections and so on (I could not do a pay for delete for some of the collections), and I know whether collections are paid or not they will still be reflected for 6 or 7 years on your credit history, but my question is how can I rebuild my credit during this period.
Thanks
