Many states opposed federal assumption of state debts because?

a.most northern states had already paid their debts and saw the assumption plan as a southern plot to increase their power.
b.the debt was so high that paying it would bankrupt the nation.
c.most of the money would go to western states that had not been fiscally responsible during the war.
d.it would be easier to repudiate the entire debt and start with “a clean slate.”
e.most southern states had already paid their debts and did not want to pay off the debts of others.

should i use 401k to pay off debt? advice needed please…?

i’m wondering which, if any, of my debts i should pay off with my 401k money. i have a one-time penalty-free withdrawal, and i would like to make the most of it. based on my debts, am i better off investing the 401k and letting it grow, or using it to pay off some/all of my debts?

ASSET
401k money- ,000 (minus whatever taxes will be taken out when i withdraw, this is what i have to play with)

DEBT
,000 promissary note (interest free) to pay off over 20 years (5/month)
00 credit card (currently on a promotional 0% interest rate)
00 credit card (6.9% interest)
00 student loan (2.5% interest)

so, my debt is mostly low-interest or interest-free, and i’m wondering how to handle using the 401k money…

pay some of it off, invest the rest?

pay all of it off, invest the rest?

continue making monthly payment, and invest the entire 401k?

thanks in advance!
i got divorced and was told i had a one-time opportunity to take out some money. was this incorrect information?

Bad Credit Debt Consolidation Loan Improves Your Credit Score

www.BadCreditDebtDude.com How to use a bad credit debt consolidation loan to improve your credit score and financial outlook.

What can I do about my credit?

I just turned 20, and I have a lot of debt because I was homeless for awhile after high school. I used to have really good credit, but it has suffered lately. I had a Sprint bill go to collections because I was homeless and had no job, but it is paid in full. I now have a Verizon bill that has gone to collections, but for a different reason. I refuse to pay it because they refuse to tell me why I owe so much. When I disconnected service with them, I owed 0(early termination included in that amount) and now they are saying I owe 00 and can’t tell me why. I also had a JCPenney card that isnt in collections but is behind. I am paying back my student loans slowly, but I am a little behind. Also, I just got evicted from my apartment because my door was kicked down and all my stuff stolen and I got a noise complaint and a complaint of police activity. I plan to fight that one in court, but they will report badly on my credit. I wanted to get a debt consolidation loan, but bad credit and all I own is my car, which isn’t worth enough to use as colateral. Good things about my credit are I have never missed a payment on my current cell bill, my cable bill, my utilities or my rent anywhere I have ever lived. My problem is I really need a cheap second car because my fiancee and I are sharing one and I am going to lose my AWESOME job because I am late every day because of our conflicting schedules. Also, I am in a rent to own agreement with my current landlord, who is going to pay my downpayment to own the house I am living in after 12 months, but I am afraid I can’t get the loan. How can I improve my credit? How bad is my credit? What can I do about the Verizon charges and my eviction? Is there a way to dispute them? I paid my apartment for the time I lived there, but I will NOT pay them for breaking the lease because I didn’t. I will pay Vezion what I owe them but I won’t give them money they can’t prove I owe them. I don’t mind to pay my debts, but I am not paying people trying to take advantage of me. Is there anyplace that will give me a loan to consolidate these debts so I can start making a single monthly payment? Is there any place that will give me a car loan? HELP!!!!!

Would forgiving the debts of poor countries be a bad thing?

I believe that it would be, but i would like some opinions on this. Also, wouldn’t our taxes be raised if debts are forgiven? Because if im right, wouldnt americans have to dish out the money that the poor country was forgiven of?

I don't understand the concept of "retroactive child support." What debts could a child amass?

If a child is has survived for "x" years without child support from one particular parent, why should the child need to receive payments retroactively? It’s not as if the child could incur any debts that would need to be paid off.

This sounds more like "best interests of the mother" than "best interests of the child."

What say you?

Hypothetically speaking, if you won a lottery of money how would you handle these situations?

If this question bores or annoys you, please just close it out. Otherwise, i really am looking for what you would do. Thank you!

Lets say you won ten million and you wanted to give 1 million to your bf of 10 years (more like best friends but he’s done a lot for me) but he said he’s going to take it and go to New Hampshire. Lets say you were planning to go to your dream California but he said he didn’t want to go there. Would you give him the 1 million? I just feel it’s bitter-sweet, to come into wealth and your bff leaves if you share a chunk of it with him. I mean he might have helped me out a total worth maybe 15g. I think if he’s going to leave, I’m not going to give him 1 million even though he calls me selfish. I feel that 1 million is for someone who is going to remain in my life for now, now move somewhere else right now, otherwise I’ll give him 100 grand or something. Is this fair? What would you do?.

Also if you have time, what to do about his family? The parents had a daughter that did some illegal acts in hurting the other sibling. She tried to blame me to the sibling and the parents kept their mouth shut even though thy knew she was behind it. In the end, the other sibling found out the truth. Long ago, they gave me a place to stay when I was poor. Now I feel bitter-sweet towards them. I am thankful of the past but I think it was really crappy how they let me be scapegoated for their daughter’s crime for awhile. I feel it almost evens everything out. At most I wanted to just pay off their debts and that’s it. I thought to give them 11 grand each, the most you can give without them having to report it and have to pay taxes but I’m not sure I should even do this. Lets say just before I won, my bf lost his job and his mom wouldn’t help us with any bills because she wishes we’d move back home so her son would be close to her again. She’s nice on the surface but I feel it’s selfish in the end. What would you do?
Well, it’s not buying a friend. I’d give 100 grand anyways but I was thinking we’d go to Cali together and I’d give him 250g to enjoy out there. If he’s going to choose a long distance relationship and move to another state, I don’t feel that is commitment to the relationship and abandoning me for money (that I gave him). So thank you, from you say, I think I’d give him 100g and monthly installments as long as we’re together. If I break up at some point and he still wants to go to New Hampshire and he was good, I’ll give him the rest lump sum.

As for his parent, on one hand i want to share my $ with people who once helped me but after I recently found out they scapegoated me to protect their criminal sibling, I feel angry but don’t want to be petty or greedy but I think it’s a big enough slap in the face but they are telling my bf that I’m cruel and selfish not to give them $ so it was that guilt since I’m sensitive. But reading what you said, I think paying off their debt is enough a
BTW thank you. Just hearing some other opinion outside of this makes me feel better and see more clearly the answer I couldn’t see lost in my own thoughts.

& of course I’d invest BUT I did want to share with some family and loved ones.

When someone dies, who is responsible for their debts & unpaid taxes?

A relative dies with debts, a mortgage, and unpaid property taxes. Is anyone obligated to pay them?

Can anyone give me advice about our house in Bankruptcy?

We went bankrupt in November 2010, moved out of our mortgaged home, and moved into rented accommodation.. We owned a property (mortgaged) which had a 75K mortgage and also we had a 30K secured loan and £50K UNsecured debt. Just recently, one house near our old house, went for £105K, so the most it will get (at auction probably) is about £90K.

So we went bankrupt and the receivers contacted us to see what assets we have – we have none, except for the house. We haven’t been back to the house since, and didn’t have our mail redirected as we have informed anyone of any importance about our new address.

Well, I phoned the receivers today to ask if they have let the creditors know yet, (because at 12 Jan 2011 they hadn’t..) and they said yes they informed them and sent a report of our debts and other creditors on 18 Jan. Then this girl said, ‘your unsecured debtors (we had £50K unsecured debt) will know there’s little point in trying to you, but the mortgage company will need to contact you and know your ‘current’ address, because they will need to issue a repossession order,,,’

I am utterly baffled, as when we spoke to the receivers in November, (AND the court too,) they both informed us that the receivers would deal with everything, and that the creditors will need to go to the receivers for any assets we have. This is how bankruptcy works surely.???? And now this girl tell us that we should have contacted the mortgage company voluntarily, because the creditors ‘only let the creditors know the person is bankrupt,’ and because there is little equity, they don’t take the house themselves, they just leave it up to the mortgage company to reposses it at their leisure. So apparently, we are supposed to work with the mortgage company through the repossession. !!!

But why on earth should *we* have to let them know our new address so they can badger us here, ?? Surely they can repossess it without us. I was under the distinct impression from the court and from the receivers (at the start) that once we go bankrupt, it’s out of our hands. and now 3 months on, one girl at the receivers office is saying that we should have contacted the mortgage company so we can help in the repossession process!

Well excuse me, but we did pay the receivers £900 (£450 each) to do this job for us, and what would happen if we had buggared off and just abandoned the house like a lot of people do? Surely the repossession can go ahead without us?

Can anyone advise? I am super reluctant to contact the mortgage company and see no reason why they can’t simply repossess without us. And I am particularly pissed off that the receivers AND the court said it’s out of our hands and we need to do NOTHING, as declaring ourselves bankrupt freed us of the debt (and the assets of course..) and now this girl today has said we should inform the mortgage company of our new address, or the repossession order will take many months, as they ‘need our signatures…’ for the repossession order to go through swiftly.

For one, why only say this now? And what happens if someone abandons a property? Should we just leave it and wait for them to repossess without us?

How to repair credit after fully paying all debts?

So I paid all my debts, collections and so on (I could not do a pay for delete for some of the collections), and I know whether collections are paid or not they will still be reflected for 6 or 7 years on your credit history, but my question is how can I rebuild my credit during this period.

Thanks
