Bankruptcy in Texas.. Help please?
I am re posting this question in the hopes of a few more answers….
Desperate…Credit Card Debt; Bankruptcy Law in Texas?
Ok, I am buried in credit card debt and medical bills and I really need some advice from someone who isn’t biased by trying to sell me their service.
I stopped making the payments on my cards in 2007, and my debt has since gone up over K.
I have looked into consolidation, but they want K a month which I can’t afford. I have already changed my financial habits and gotten rid of the majority of extras, but I still can’t afford it. From what I gather consolidation is only mildly better than bankruptcy.
I am now in the process of filing for bankruptcy to try to clear my name. In fact I have a meeting next week to finalize and file the paperwork. This is going to cost me roughly 00.
1. If I choose not to file bankruptcy, will my debt continue to be re-sold to collection agencies and continue to grow? Is there a limit to this or can they just keep twisting the knife??
2. I have been told that they will try to sue me,and I assume I would likely lose a second house that was willed to me, but what else can they take? What can they do if I sign the house into my brother’s name?
3. I know they can’t take my primary residence or my or my wife’s work vehicle, and I don’t have anything else other than my mom’s house. They can’t garnish my wages but I have been told they can take my tax return? Also, I was told that they could write it off and send me a 1099 that would make me responsible for the debt. Is this true?
4. I keep hearing these commercials about how Obama has changed the laws to help people in my situation, but I think they are just consolidation companies trying to scam me?
Can anyone please help me?
I can ask my lawyer but my lawyer stands to make 2000 so is she biased? I really want to know what happens if I don’t file bankruptcy or make any attempt to pay the debt. Will it continue to be re-sold to creditors and continue to grow? What happens if they write it off and hit me with a 1099?

debt consolidation…?
i owe on a car, student loans, and some medical bills….
ive seen these debt consolidation adds on tv, and dont know how they really work, or if theyre even a good idea…
can any share some insight?
Does anyone know of any legitimate high risk lenders?
I need a personal loan to consolidate my credit card debt. I ran a lot of them up on medical bills, I’ve made good on my payments the last three years or so. My credit is slowly rising because of this, but the poor choices of my foolish youth drag my credit score down. I am at my wits end, I’ve tried many big name lenders, but with no avail, I am becoming really stressed over this. I do not want to go into debt consolidation, I have a steady income (I work for the Social Services). I just am tired of throwing money away on high interest rates on from my credit card providers (some are as high as 30%!!!!). I’ve been contacted by Parkwood Lending Group…they want me to secure my loan with a six month payment advance. I think that sounds fishy and as far as I have researched, I haven’t found any good info on them at all. I don’t know what to do. Help? FYI, payday loans are a no-no. They charge incredible fees, it should be illegal.
How can I deal with this debt?
My girlfriend has unfortunate circumstances that make her life very unstable. She is currently 7 months pregnant (The baby is not mine and I knew about it, but we fell in love anyways and I’m sticking with her) She is still trying to go finish college, but still owes the school a great deal of money. Since she is pregnant, she can’t really get a job anywhere except to babysit, and she is making barely enough to pay for the school, while I am handling my debt to the college, as well as paying her medical bills for the baby doctor visits. Unfortunately, a while back, she was forced to buy textbooks with a credit card and did not anticipate getting pregnant and could not make payments. The amount has nearly doubled since January, when her last payment was sent in.
Is there a way she can negotiate with the bank to lower the amount owed in exchange for a lump sum close to the original amount?
If she is stuck making payments with a plan with the current amount, (over 1k), she won’t be able to go back to school.
We were thinking she could pay the money back and possibly get another student loan for around 00, but we don’t know if that will work.
I feel like I need to help her, but i have my own debts to pay and I already told her I’m paying the doctor bills, despite her protests. We are both young, age 21, not even out of college. I want to be there for her, and I feel finishing her education will help all of us when we become a family in the future. I feel so helpless. Supporting both of us is a big challenge until we graduate and get a good career and stable pay. Right now my internship doesn’t pay as high as I’d like, but its required to graduate by next May.
Thanks for your feedback!
Hubby hides how much he spends… how do you handle that?
My husband loves computers. He likes to talk about them, help people with their problems (say on forums and such) and keep up with the best technology.
Then thing is, once you buy a computer component, it literally is 1/2 it’s worth when it arrives at your door-step. New and better things come out all the time.
My problem is, he lies as to how much he paid for an item. I’ve never given him reason to feel he needs to lie. I’ve never told him that he CAN’T buy it, but he also knows we can’t afford it either right now.
So, after a few weeks of new packages at our door stop and new components being installed, I finally get the bill… it’s OVER 0! WTF! He knows we can’t afford that… even if it’s on credit accounts [paypal buyers credit, and newegg.com credit (which I cannot close – because they are in his name).
I don’t know what to do, besides blowing my top off. We’re trying to pay off debt, and he just keeps adding more!
why would he hide and lie like that to me? When he knows I’m gonna see the bill later? I’ve never given him reason to feel he needs to lie or hide… and have never jumped on him for buying stuff… but I don’t like he feels he needs to lie! What can I do?
no, he’s not cheating on me… or hiding other bills. It’s just a matter of him lying to me… then even trying to lie again when I ask him why he lied… It makes me feel like he can’t trust me, or respect our financial situation. We’re not rich… and I am trying HARD to pay off 2 credit cards and medical bills. I just find it rude.. mostly since I’m his wife!
My Mother in Law sent me A Christmas Letter that just pissed me off! HELP?
My husband and I just got married in August.
We got NO gift and NO card or Congrats from my MIL…Long story..
Anyways, We borrowed 100 dollars from her to pay for his Tux.
We were supposed to get his tux free, but long story short, we didn’t so we had to pay.
Our pay checks weren’t due in till the day of our Wedding..
We just said, You can just make the tux our gift (Thinking that she may give her only child a gift)….
I just Got a Card in the Mail Today from my Mother In Law and it read
Dear Children,
May peace break into your house and may thieves come and steal your debt(Speaking of the letter, I am deducting 100 from the debt you owe me in Lieu of Christmas Gifts (your tux) Love Mom.
Since my husband and I have been Together,
We have not received any gifts just stupid letters.
My MIL who makes 80K a year, Is spending 2 weeks in the Bahamas and she is So mad right now that we didn’t give her a Birthday gift or Christmas gift.
I feeling like writing a letter to my MIL saying.
Dear Mother in Law,
May peace break into your home and in Lieu of Christmas Gifts, In the past we Drove 30 miles to cut your grass every week, do your leaves and shovel your snow.
Merry Christmas.
Love Your Children.
Advice?
We are not Jealous that she gets to be in the Bahamas. Were upset by the way she is soo tacky and rude with everything.
She NEVER calls us, and when she does, She wants us to Fix this, install this, paint this. She has a Boyfriend that lives 3 miles away but Yet, We have to stop whatever were doing and come to her aid.
We are self sufficient.
We both work, My husband has a Great Career,
we at 21 and 23 Own our OWN house.
A bigger and better house then she has, and the only debt we have is some minor medical bills and student loans.
However 2 weeks before the wedding, we had some unforeseen expenses, a broken window that needed to be fixed and an last minute 500 dollar emergency vet bill that we had to pay.
Peace?
My 3 times Divocred Mother In Law, whose marriages lasted 3 years combine.
Is telling her Son that he needs peace? We have peace, and were madly in Love after more then three years.
Yes We did pay her back. We did.
